This is not an emergency-warning service
Was That A Quake? is an independent presentation layer on top of publicly available data. It is not, and must not be relied upon as, an official earthquake or tsunami warning system.
For life-safety decisions, always follow the official emergency authority for your region: USGS, NOAA, your local Emergency Management agency, JMA, GeoNet, BMKG, Geoscience Australia, EMSC, or your national civil defence service. Their official bulletins are the only authoritative source.
Data accuracy and availability
Data on this site comes from third-party seismic agencies and may be delayed, incomplete, revised, or temporarily unavailable. Initial earthquake parameters (magnitude, depth, location) are frequently updated as more data arrive; we display whatever the agency has published most recently, but cannot guarantee correctness in real time.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the site. Upstream agency outages, network failures, or our own server issues may prevent data from displaying.
No warranty
Was That A Quake? is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Your use of the site is at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operators of Was That A Quake? shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this website — including but not limited to damages relating to reliance on displayed data.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the site or its APIs in a way that would damage, disable, or impair them.
- Scrape or republish data at volumes that would burden the underlying agency feeds.
- Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
- Misrepresent data shown here as an official warning or bulletin.
Third-party content and links
We display data and provide links to third-party websites and APIs. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content or availability.

Intellectual property
The site's code, design, and original written content are © Was That A Quake?, all rights reserved unless otherwise stated. Earthquake and tsunami data are the property of their respective agencies; see the Data Sources page for attribution.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
